Irritable Bowel Syndrome -(IBS)How It Can Be Managed With Aloe Vera Juice

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Irritable bowel syndrome is a group of symptoms consisting of abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea. It is fast becoming the disease of urban populations worldwide, especially those living sedentary lives and living on a less wholesome diet than their rural cousins.

The interesting thing is that, in many patients diagnosed with Irritable Bowel, there is often nothing anatomically wrong that can be identified and measured as a sign of the disease – if anything, the two things that scientists have consistently found to be associated with the increased incidence of IBS are –elevated stress levels and the simple lack of physical movement.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a problem because a healthy gut is the precursor to a healthy body. Thus anything that impedes your body’s ability to digest food and absorb important nutrients will have an impact on virtually every other sphere of your existence.

Can the condition be controlled with Aloe Vera Juice? This is a question that I keep hearing and that is why I have come up with this information for you here!

Aloe Vera juice is effective in treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It contains natural soothing healing properties, anti-inflammatory compounds and enzymes that sooth the condition as well as aids in the maintenance of a healthy digestive system.

According to a scientific research paper published in Preventive Magazine titled "Effect of Orally Consumed Aloe Vera Juice," ingesting Aloe Vera juice helps to improve gastro-intestinal function. Authored by Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D. of the Linus Pauling Institute of Science & Medicine, the paper reports that individuals suffering from indigestion, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and excess stomach acid have reported relief from these conditions after drinking Aloe Vera juice.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common disorders of the digestive tract with pretty miserable symptoms.

Some of the common symptoms of this disorder include:

  • Abdominal bloating, pain and gas
  • Increase in symptoms with stress after eating.
  • Mucus in the stool.

  • Feeling that a bowel movement hasn’t been completed.
  • Irregular bowel habits, with constipation, diarrhea or both.

Irritable Bowel Syndrom Prevention

There is no way to prevent irritable-Bowel-Syndrome. However because symptoms often worsen or improve due to diet, stress, medications, exercise, or for unknown reason, identifying those things that trigger your symptoms may help you avoid or minimize attacks.

What can Help Relieve Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

The first thing you need to do in order to keep your gut healthy is to eat better. IBS is often associated with a deficiency of fibre in our diet, which is why the middle and upper classes that eat more processed foods are among the most affected by this condition.

Fibre is what literally sweeps your gut clean and keeps the digestive process going smoothly. Natural, unprocessed foods like most of our indigenous vegetables are rich in natural gut cleansing fibre, as are whole grains such as maize, beans, millet, green grams and cracked wheat.

Many medical professionals are now suggesting that people try using an Aloe Vera gel cleanser to help naturally wash out the bowels and maintain a healthy digestive system. Aloe Vera, Natural supplements and herbal alternatives can be very effective in controlling many of the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This is because Aloe Vera Juice contains anti-inflammatory compounds and enzymes that sooth the condition and also is able to help in absorption of nutrients.

The use of Aloe Vera as a bodily cleanser is not a new thing that modern science has just discovered. In fact, Aloe Vera has been used for centuries for this exact purpose, even being described in Ancient Sumerian and Egyptian texts. The gel of the Aloe Vera plant contains polysaccharides, which are long chain sugars that help fight bacteria within the abdominal wall and help repair the tissues of the colon. Aloe Vera is also really high in natural fibers, which helps regulate the system and encourage healthy bowel movements.

The vitamins and minerals within Aloe Vera also help eliminate the gunk that sticks to the walls of the intestine encouraging further waste elimination. The soothing compounds within the Aloe Vera gel have also been proven to help relieve irritable- bowel-syndrome and indigestion.

Alongside inadequate dietary fibre, is the diminishing role of physical exercise in our lives today. Most of us are spending more time seated in traffic jams, chained to office desks and slumped on sofas in front of the television than ever before and the effect of this is hitting us right in the gut. In Yoga, there are several postures dedicated entirely to promoting gastro-intestinal activity, but even if you don’t have access to yoga class, you can still benefit from any form of exercise including walking, jogging and swimming.

Exercise also has a secondary benefit that helps to alleviate IBS symptoms. It encourages you to drink more water which is great for your gut. Far too many of us do not drink enough water on a daily basis, a fact which can promote constipation and delayed bowel movement. At least two thirds of your body mass is composed of water and dehydration can have a huge effect on your body’s ability to process food and eliminate its waste products. An adult should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day; this allows the gut to remain healthy and lubricated thus enhancing regular bowel movement. Get online and look up a simple tool called the Bristol Stool Test, which categories your gut is.

It is no coincidence that obesity and IBS often go hand-in-hand. In a study led by the University of Minnesota researcher Robert W. Jeffrey, about 1000 obese men and women were questioned about their gut symptoms. What emerged is that the heaviest individuals in the study also reported the most abdominal pain and diarrhea, proving that there is a direct link between weight gain and IBS. A more sophisticated analysis of the data indicated that the most important factors linked to fewer gastro-intestinal symptoms were regular exercise and a healthy diet – low fat and high fruit and fibre intake.

This study proves the fact that lifestyle choices are the greatest determinant of our overall health, especially the health of our digestive system. Remember to eat better and move more.

By observing and making little changes in what you eat, there can be some relieve, for example:-

Soluble fibre found in flax seeds can be very helpful. Soak two tablespoons of flax seeds overnight and stir the whole lot into your morning porridge. This will help you in two ways, become more regular or help bulk up the stool in case of diarrhea.

Include tumeric in the diet. It can reduce symptoms, pain and discomforts

Eat papaya. .Why? Papaya contains a protein-digesting enzyme known as papain, which can stimulate digestion and bowel movement

Take artichoke extracts. This is best taken as a tincture (concentrated liquid extract) as is better absorbed and therefore works faster.

Try an elimination diet. With the help of a clinical nutritionist; stop eating foods that you think may cause you problems and add them back one at a time over several weeks to identify which, if any cause the symptoms

Are there any ways of managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome naturally? The answer is yes!. Careful attention to diet and stress management can keep your symptoms under control and perhaps even prevent them from recurring.

If constipation is the main symptom:

Try an over the counter fibre supplement or bulk forming agent that contains crushed psyllium seed or methyl/cellalose. Examples include Metamucil, fiberall and Citrucel.

Add fibre-rich foods to diet (add slowly so they do not worsen gas or cramps).

If Diarrhea is the main symptom:

Avoid foods that make diarrhea worse. Try eliminating one at a time, then add it back gradually. If a food doesn’t seem to be related to symptoms, there is no need to avoid it. Many people find the following foods or items worsen their symptoms:-

  • Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine,
  • beans, broccoli, apples,
  • spicy foods,
  • foods high in acid, such as citrus fruits.
  • Fatty foods, including bacon, sausages, butter, oils
  • Anything deep-fried.
  • Avoid dairy products that contain lactose (milk sugar) if they seem to worsen symptoms. However, get enough calcium in your diet from other sources. Yogurt may be a good choice, because some of the lactose has already been digested by the yogurt cultures.
  • Avoid sorbitol, an artificial sweetner found in some sugarless candies and gum.
  • If diarrhea persists an over the counter medication such as loperamide (Imodium) may help. Check with your doctor if you are using it twice a month or more.

  • What can Help Relieve Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Some Natural supplements and herbal alternatives can be very effective in controlling many of the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However,Aloe Vera is the most suitable because it contains anti-inflammatory compounds and enzymes that sooth the digestive system. Aloe Vera Juice has healing properties and can help relieve bowel problems,IBS symptoms and also helps in absorption of nutrients.

Aloe-Vera-internal-use helps destroy parasites, harmful bacterial and fungi in the intestinal tract.Aloe-vera-juice has the ability to relieve bowel tension and help produce bowel movement.
